Can I lose weight using cardio machines?
Of course you can lose weight working out with the
treadmill, exercise bike and elliptical machines. However working out with
these cardio machines may not be as effective as other methods for losing
weight.
Before
I get hate mails from treadmill, exercise bike and elliptical machine
enthusiasts, let me just say that if you really do enjoy pumping mindlessly
away on a treadmill, exercise bike or elliptical, then by all means, please
keep doing what you enjoy since enjoying your exercise is a very mportant
aspects to sticking with any exercise program.
Why Cardio Machines May Not Help You Lose Weight Fast
Here are the reasons why I dislike cardio machine
workout to lose weight.
a) I don't know about you, but to me,
cardio machine workouts are terribly boring!! Since the workouts are so
boring, people may give up before any tangible weight loss results are seen.

b) Mindless steady exercise workout while watching
TV or reading a book creates a mind/body disconnect resulting in poor results.
Further more, since you are able to enjoy watching TV or reading a book, your
exercise intensity is probably not high enough to push up your heart rate and
this again do not give you good weight loss result.
c) Several studies have shown that
treadmill running may be less effective than outdoor running for reasons such
as stride abnormalities and slightly less calorie burn as compared to outdoor
running.
d) Treadmills, exercise bikes and
ellipticals are inefficient ways to workout compared to other options to lose
weight. Why should you do treadmill or elliptical workouts when you can get better
weight loss results by doing more interesting forms of training that
actually stimulate a fat-burning hormonal response and stimulate your
metabolism to a much greater extent.
Alternative Exercises To Lose Weight
So what are the better alternatives to cardio
machine workout to lose weight? Here are some examples.
a) Skipping/jumping rope – This
method is simply great for mind/body connection and you can perform the
exercise with variations such as try speed jumping, crosses, double jumps to
get more effective fat burning responses and to defeat boredom.
b) Bodyweight training – If you do
not have exercise equipment at home, try bodyweight training such as squats,
pushups, lunges, jumps, bear crawls and planks, just to name a few. Not only
do you burn calories with these exercises, you will tone up your body nicely
too.
c) Outdoor wind sprinting – This is
the ultimate exercise to lose weight and get that rock hard ripped body. Don't
believe me? Then take a just at the chiseled powerful bodies of world class
sprinters, and compare that to the weakling withered physique of a typical
marathon runner. This is an exercise you must do if you want to get that awesome
well defined six pack abs.
d) Hill sprinting - This is another
classic for getting a powerful rock hard body. This is also a good exercise to
develop a big sexy
perky butt.
e) Sprint swimming – Don't just swim
lap after lap mindlessly. Not only will you burn more fat with sprint
swimming, you get to be more muscular too. This is the same concept as
sprinting vs jogging but done in a pool instead.
f) Use a heavy punching bag – Take it
out on the punching back, kick the shit out of it, speed punch it as if you
are sparring with Mike Tyson! This training certainly beats a boring cardio
machines isn't it?
So if you are working out on the treadmill,
exercise bike at the elliptical machines to lose weight, I hope this article
can add some fun to your boring exercise program and help you to lose
weight faster.
