What to lookout for when deciding to join a gym
So you have finally made up your mind to be fit
and healthy. The next logical move is to choose and select a gym that is
suitable to you. So how do you decide which gym to join?
To join a correct gym is an important
investment for your quest to achieve good health and a fit fabulously looking
body and therefore choosing a suitable gym will tend to ensure your success
rate. Herebelow are some tips to help you to select a suitable gym for you.

Cardio Machines
A good gym must have an array of cardio machines
so that you can give your cardio workout a variation and preventing you from
getting bored with working out with the same machines. This is especially so
if you intend to lose
weight by doing cardio workouts.
Some
of the common cardio machines a good gym should have are Treadmills,
Elliptical Machines, Stair Climbers, Stationary Bikes, Rowing Machines etc.
Inspect the machines and see if they are new and
fresh or old and overused. Overused machines are usually not as effective and
are prone to breakdowns.

Weight Training Equipment
Make sure they have enough weight training
equipment and the equipments that you will use. Do make sure they have enough
free weights as some gyms provide more machines than free weights because
machines look much fancier than old fashioned free weights. In case you do not
know why I am saying this, it is because that in many circumstances, free
weights are far more effective
for muscle building than machines.
Hours of Operation
Many people often forget to check the gym's
operational hours assuming that the operational hours to be suitable. That is
not necessary the case. So do find out the operational hours, especially if
you are joining a smaller gym or a privately owned one.
Gym Cleanliness
Gym cleanliness is an indicator of well the gym is
being managed. If the management can't even keep their premises clean, do you
think that they will be proficient in managing the gym and its various
programs?
Observe the Trainers and Staff
Are there enough staff so that they can attend to
your request efficiently? Do the personal
trainers look fit? Are the personal
trainers professionally certified? Are they in shape or do they look like
they should have trainers themselves!
If they don't even bother to keep in shape
as a fitness professional, what then do you think of their professional
integrity? Would you ask for financial advice from someone who is broke? Make
sure you choose a trainer who practices what he preach and who is dedicated in
helping you to acheive your goals.
Be a Peeping Tom
Check out the locker area. Make sure that the gym
has enough lockers and storage space for your belongings. You don't want to
compete for locker space with other members, would'nt you?
Inspect the shower area and see if they have a
sauna and hot tub or even a jacuzzi. Enjoying these facilities are very nice
after a long and hard workout.
Access to Other Gyms
Does the gym you intend to join have arrangements
with other gyms in your area? If so, can you workout at any of those gyms or
do you need a special membership to them?
Get a Complimentary Workout
Once you have surveyed the gym of your choice and
are rather satisfied, be bold, ask them for a complimentary pass to workout
and see how you like the gym. A decent gym should always offer you a free pass
to check out their gym before you make the decision to join. If they can't
even do this, then move along as they probably have something to hide or their
public relation sux big time.
Best Wishes
