Do you need to take supplements when on a diet program?

Any successful healthy weight loss diet plan will tell you that there is no magic pill when it comes to losing weight successfully. What are essential fatty acids?

While it is not known exactly why essential fatty acids (called essential because these fatty acids cannot or are hardly produced by the body and must be supplemented through external sources such as food, especially in fish oil) enhance weight loss efforts, however, it is believed to be due to:-

Fish oils are rich in DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and DHA has been shown to prevent the conversion of pre-adipocytes (pre-fat cells) to adipocytes (fat cells) and mediate pre-adipocyte death (destroy them before they become fat cells).



Fish oil has the ability to increase the clearance of chylomicrons (certain type of fat cell) and fats following a meal. This potentially can have a positive effect on fat utilization.

 
The essential fatty acids can also "artificially" decrease heart rate thus increasing the level of exertion needed to reach desired intensity resulting in higher fat burning metabolism. This was shown to be true in a study done in Australia looking at the impact of exercise and fish oil on weight loss. The researchers found that the combination of exercise and fish oil indeed led to an increase in fat loss. 

 

Furthermore, fish oil essential fatty acids upregulates mitochondrial machinery and increases oxidation of fats within fat cells.  This astonishing process simply means that your body burns more fat for energy rather than storing them as bodyfat.

 

With the overwhelming undisputable clinical research pointing to the need for essential fatty acid supplementation for losing weight, you should be incorporating them into their weight loss diet plan. 

 

As you can see, the overall health benefits of essential fatty acids are so astounding that it would be silly for those on a diet program not to supplement it into their weight loss diets.
