Almost every boy and men admires a competive swimmer's body like those of Michael Phelps. Inspired by Phelps, many people take to the pool mistakenly thinking that by swimming regularly and vigorously, they can one day own Michael Phelp's body.

Sad to say, a male swimmer's body is not built in the swimming pool alone and these hardworking folks that swim everyday to build a swimmer's physique will not get to their goal. You see, building a certain type of physique requires a lot of training from fitness experta and also with a dietician who can plan certain foods for the body to be nourished adequately.

A male swimmer’s physique requires development of a lean and toned torso in addition to well defined muscles which are not too big and bulky. Male swimmers also have broad shoulders and a flat stomach with supple well toned arms, wide broad back, trim and strong core with lean sexy legs which are indeed eye candies.

The female swimmer’s muscles are as well developed as those of their male counterparts. However, since we can see the female swimmer's arms and shoulders, they may come across as too bulky and broad which is not eye pleasing to many people. Since it shows mostly in the triceps, biceps and shoulders, it may look too broad or bulky.

What exercise and diets to build swimmers body?

Swimming is not the only exercise that swimmers do to get their fabulous physique. Their workout routine include weight training, aerobic cardiovascular exercises and a well planned diet. These activities ensure universal muscle development and improve the cardiovascular health.

You ought to be aware that just by swimming vigorously as an exercise and not accompanying it with weight training can cause imbalances in a swimmer's muscle development. This is because all swimming actions are pulling actions and the swimmer do not use much pull muscles when they are in the pool. This will cause muscle imbalances and painful injuries if the swimmer do not workout in the gym to strengthen their push muscles.

Furthermore, since the pulling muscles are trained and not the pushing muscles, the growth of these muscle groups is will not symmetrical and this will affect their competitiveness. As such, all swimmers must strengthen their push muscles through weight resistance exercises in order to balance the strength and development of muscle groups uniformly.

So how do male swimmers get such well tones and defined muscles? Their muscles are defined because of their low bodyfat. The average body fat ratio of a male swimmer is about 10-13%. Aerobic cardiovascular exercises helps the swimmer to increase their perseverance and endurance as well as burning out excess fat. Swimmers need to watch out what they eat to stay trim so that their bodies are more streamlined as the propel trough the water with the least ressistance.
